What's the deal with sulfate free?

Let's face it- as consumers, we are more educated than ever about the products we use and consume. From organic food to beauty products, everyone is switching to all-natural and chemical-free variations. Shampoos in particular are a hot topic. As a product that is used almost daily, it's important to know that your shampoo is not only safe but nourishing for your hair.

So what does 'sulfate free' shampoo mean exactly? And what's the big difference?

Sulfates are basically cheap foaming agents that create suds and a rich lather when you are shampooing your hair. Think of it as a detergent that works to break down oils and dirt. Unfortunately, that lathering effect is quite deceiving. Sulfates have been proven to cause scalp and skin irritation, and have also been linked to causing cancer. You will find that shampoos containing sulfate dry out your scalp and hair. So yes, your hair will have that 'squeaky clean' feeling, but it's not actually clean. Your hair is being stripped of its natural oils, and in time will be left damaged and dry. Sulfate shampoos also strip your hair of its color. If you are spending your hard earned money on getting your hair professional dyed or highlighted, all of your money is going down the drain if you are not using a sulfate-free shampoo!

Make the switch today, and your hair will thank you for it. Try the E-Voss DNA Keratin shampoo, garlic shampoo, or curling me softly shampoo if you're looking for a place to start.
